The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government initiative launched in 1969 during Mahatma Gandhi's centenary year, aiming to develop students' personalities through community service. It operates under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, involving young volunteers from schools, colleges, and universities across India. NSS creates a platform for students to engage in constructive social activities, promote community welfare, and enhance their own skills in leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility.
The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You”, reflects the spirit of selfless service and the importance of community engagement.
