The Department of Microbiology, Al Azhar College of Arts & Science, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised “MICROVERSE – Life Beyond Sight”, an educational exhibition aimed at introducing students to the fascinating and largely unseen world of microorganisms.
The programme was designed to provide an interactive and experiential learning environment through which students could explore various aspects of microbiology beyond conventional classroom learning. The exhibition highlighted the diversity, structure, significance and applications of microorganisms through visual displays, models, microscopic observations, interactive games and demonstrations.
The major objectives of the exhibition were:
- To create awareness about the diversity and importance of microorganisms.
- To provide students with hands-on and experiential learning opportunities in microbiology.
- To demonstrate the microscopic world through visual and laboratory-based activities.
- To introduce participants to important areas such as bacteriology, virology and parasitology.
- To enhance students’ scientific curiosity, observation skills and interest in microbiological sciences.
- To bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications.
To encourage peer learning and effective scientific communication among students.
Major Attractions and Activities
The exhibition included a variety of academic and interactive activities, including:
Bacteriology
Exhibits and displays illustrating bacterial diversity, morphology, structures and their significance in everyday life, health and the environment.
Virology
Visual presentations and models introducing participants to viruses, their structures and their relevance to human health.
Parasitology
Exhibits highlighting important parasites, their morphology, life cycles and significance in human health.
3D Structures and Models
Three-dimensional models were displayed to provide a better understanding of microbial structures and other microbiological concepts that are difficult to visualise through conventional teaching methods.
Microscopic Observation
Participants were provided opportunities to observe microscopic specimens and appreciate the microbial world through laboratory instruments.
Interactive Games
Interactive Games like memory game, puzzles are arranged to make the event more lively.
Free Blood Grouping
A free blood grouping activity was arranged for students as an awareness-oriented practical activity. The activity provided participants with an opportunity to understand the basic principle of blood grouping while promoting awareness about the importance of knowing one’s blood group.
Note: The blood grouping activity was conducted for educational/experimental purposes, and participants were advised that the result should be confirmed by a qualified medical professional or authorised diagnostic laboratory when required.
Participants
The programme received participation from students and faculty members from various departments of Al Azhar College of Arts & Science. The exhibition also welcomed students from Al Azhar Public School, providing them with an opportunity to interact with college students and gain an introductory understanding of microbiology.
The interdepartmental participation contributed to knowledge sharing and promoted greater awareness of microbiology beyond the discipline.
