Library Usage Policy

Objective

The college endeavours to maintain a well-equipped Library. All the students of the college are entitled to make use of the books/ journals/ magazines etc and the other facilities available in the Library. This policy aims to set guidelines for the usage of library by students and members of faculty.

Guidelines

  • Only the members of the staff and students of the college are entitled to use the library.
  • The service hours of the library are from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm on all class days and from 10 am to 4 pm on other days except Sunday, Public Holidays, and specially announced holidays of the college.
  • Students are allowed to take only note books/ white paper in to the library. Other books, umbrellas, bag etc shall be left at the counter at their own risk before they move into the library. Perfect silence should be observed in the library and its premises.
  • Students are permitted to walk amidst the book racks and to take any book for reading. The books should be handled most carefully.
  • No person shall write upon, tear out or make any mark upon any book or article belonging to the library.
  • Students are given borrowers cards which are not transferable. Four books can be borrowed at a time, for a period of seven days and must be returned on or before the date indicated in the book An overdue charge of Rs. 1 per volume will be levied per day after due date. Once a book is issued it will not be taken back on the very same day.
  • To borrow a book from the library, find out the required book by searching through the book shelves or with the help of the library staff. Make the necessary entries in the borrower's card. Then hand over the book to the librarian who will make necessary entries in the ledger placed in the library and stamp the due date on the label and issue the book.
  • If a book is damaged or lost by a member, he or she should replace the book or pay double the cost for replacing the book.
  • Before leaving the counter the members must examine the book borrowed and report to the library staff, any damage found therein. If they fail to do so, they will be held responsible for any damage detected after wards. If it becomes necessary, the librarian shall have the authority to ask for the return of a book, irrespective of the due date of return of the book and the student shall return the book forth with.
  • Dictionaries, periodicals and reference books shall not be lent out to the teachers and students. If any of them is issued out with special permission for overnight reference, it shall be returned to the library, the very next day as soon as the library opens.
  • Members are not permitted to sub-lend the books or cards issued to them
  • Books are issued to members of the staff when they make the necessary entries in the ledger maintained for them. At the end of the academic year they are expected to return all the books borrowed.
  • Every student is expected to make a record of his/her work. The records of the library work shall be submitted to the respective teachers when asked for.
  • The facility of a Xerox copier is provided at nominal rates to photocopy portions of a book or question paper.
  • Identity card should be produced at the time of taking (or giving) books from (or to) the library.
  • If the student requires the book in custody for more than 14 days, then the librarian should be contacted on the due date of return, who will renew the book for another 3 days if no other student is waiting for the same book.
  • If all the copies of the book a student is looking for have been issued to other students then he/she can request the librarian to reserve one copy for him /her on the return of the book. The librarian should be contacted to verify the return of such books.
  • If the book is not returned within 30 days of the due date of return, it will be presumed that the book is lost.
  • All books must be returned to the library 3 days before the close of each semester.
  • Books, not exceeding four, may be taken out for Onam and Christmas holidays. All such books must be returned on the date of reopening.
  • Outsiders are not allowed to enter the library without the prior permission of the principal.
  • Text Books and Practical Record Books are distributed through the library
  • Students will have to register their names for textbooks and Practical Record books with the Librarian
